Multi-Detection Camera & Automatic Foam Cannon System

The facility in Capa, Dublin required comprehensive protection against fires in bulk waste storage and material stockpiles. Fires in such environments can develop invisibly beneath the surface, often triggered by contaminants such as lithium-ion batteries or metal fragments.

Traditional detection methods are insufficient in this context — a multi-layered detection and suppression solution was required to provide early warning and rapid intervention before a subsurface fire breaks through.

A sophisticated camera-based detection system was installed combining three complementary detection technologies to ensure no ignition goes undetected:

• Infrared thermal imaging for continuous temperature monitoring across the stockpile
• Flame detection for open ignition recognition in real time
• Video analytics for heat signature verification and false alarm reduction

Each foam cannon discharges approximately 950 litres per minute of environmentally responsible, PFAS-free foam concentrate, with zoned activation to minimise operational disruption during a suppression event.

The system is backed by purpose-built infrastructure ensuring reliability and resilience:

• Twin electric duty and diesel standby fire pumps for redundancy
• Custom-built FireBox pump-house housing all pump and control equipment
• Dedicated on-site water storage tank for independent supply
• Full integration with the site's existing fire alarm network
